I was drawn to the Magic of Cute Circuits back in 2006,

when stumbling upon this creation, The Hug Shirt.

It allows you to send and feel hugs to and from other Hug Shirt owning friends!

The Hug Shirt is filled with wearable sensors and actuators, with a Bluetooth and Java enabled mobile phone- running on the ‘Hug Me’ Java software application. The sensors feel the strength of the touch, the warmth of the skin and the heart-rate. Nominated one of the best inventions by Time Magazine in 2006, the Hug Shirt lets you give love even when you’re far away.

More recently you'd associate Cute Circuits work, with The Katy Perry Dress.

FACT:
Silver has been known to have both an anti-bacterial property (kills bacteria, or stops them reproducing) and an anti-fungal property ( kills fungi or stops them reproducing).

HISTORY:
In short, for over 2000 years it has been used to preserve food and water; e.g. Silver coins in Milk , today some people use water filters which contain silver.

More importantly before the development of antibiotics a thin layer of silver was applied to cuts and wounds to prevent infection and speed up the healing process.

GOING FORWARD:
Anti Fungal textiles using Silver disposition.
E.g. in term of textiles for clothing, Fungal and bacterial infestation can cause material damage to fabrics, damage that becomes visible through discoloration and stains. Some fungi and bacteria are pathogenic. Anti-microbially active coatings might be a possible protection against an infestation of the fabrics, benefiting the garment's wearer.

The jacket uses Fibretronic’s five function keypad together with the Bluetooth Music Phone Controller which is compatible with all mobile phones with stereo Bluetooth capability.

The jacket allows to make and receive phone calls via the sleeve integrated keypad and a microphone module attached to the collar.The keypad controls include the most used functions when listening to music: play/pause, rewind, fast forward and volume.

Whilst listening to music the Bluetooth module will alert the wearer of any in-coming calls which can be picked up on the sleeves keypad and will automatically switch back to the music when the call is finished.

Conductive thread - A mathod of connecting electronics onto clothing. This thread can carry current for power and signals. Not as conductive as traces on a printed circuit board (PCB), yet this thread makes wearable clothing 'wearable'!

N.B. it is really important to stitch a single line. The typical embroidery pattern with all it's zig-zag's would result in too high resistance and you would run the risk of creating a short circuit.

INTRODUCTION: In 2007 I entered and Snow-Apparel design competition for NO FEAR. I was fortunate to win the competition joint 1st.
I chose to design a ladies range, since i felt women's snow apparel were not as technically advanced as men's.
Since then i have been designing protective (waterproof/ breathable/ hi-visibilty/ fire retardent) uniforms the emergency services, military and utility. The aim of this project is to apply the knowledge of uniform design to that of a Snow-board jacket; i.e. to apply creativity.
I will begin with a fairly simple design.
